Update from Pastor Phil – January 6, 2023
We’re looking forward to this coming weekend. Three things I really want to share with you.
First of all, through January we have our 21 Days of Prayer. This is key. Choose to step in, choose to be part of it. Every morning there will be early morning online devotions and the prayer meeting. And then every day you can receive a devotional email and you can either read it or listen to it. But the key thing is to choose the three areas that you are believing God for, the three things that you’re praying for. The three areas where you want to see breakthrough, where you want to see change and where you need God to move and do a miracle. We believe in a God that answers prayer and that’s why we do our 21 Days of Prayer in January, setting the year right, believing that God will do incredible things.
Now we call it prayer and fasting… and what I want to encourage you is to choose a way that you can carve out time to not eat food, maybe lunch, maybe coffees, maybe some way or a day’s food and eat in the evening where you stop, you do something different and you devote that time to prayer and to devotion. Now we are saying that the first week of the prayer week on Wednesday we will fast as a whole church if you are able. The following week we will then fast Wednesday and Thursday. And the following week we will fast Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. So you can have that focused time in whichever way you desire to pray into those three areas. But do something different, do something significant and believe that God hears your prayers.
Now to encourage you with that, the devotions that have been written are based around answered prayers in the Bible. I’ve read them all, they’re amazing. I can say that because my wife wrote them. But they are truly very clear and very powerful. And each day you’ll look at a different area how God answered a prayer in the Bible, from the Old Testament, from the New Testament. The way the Lord broke into a situation and the way that situation changed. And that can encourage you to believe for the three areas that you’re praying for, that the Lord hears you and will answer.
Secondly what I want to talk to you about is “The Hiding Place”. We’re not showing the film… a little bit of confusion over that… but “The Hiding Place” is a theater production that David Robinson and his small team are coming to Canada to perform. It’s on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the end of the month. This is a way that we can evangelistically invite people to see the story of Corrie Ten Boom acted out and then speak about the power of forgiveness. It’s an event that we want to encourage you to bring your friends. We want to encourage you to bring those who have drifted away from church. We would encourage you to invite people you meet in the coffee shop, people that you’re praying for. It would be an ideal opportunity. We’re also going to invite the 7500 people that came to Living Nativity, that if they were really spoken to, they could come to that event. It’s going to be amazing, it’s going to be clear and it’s going to talk about the power of forgiveness. So please remember that, pray for it. Go online and book your tickets and get ready for it. It’s a free event, but you’ll need to go online and book the tickets so we have an idea of how many people are coming.
And of course this weekend’s ministry. I’ll be preaching and what we’re going to be doing is taking one of those examples from scripture where God came in and answered prayer. Maybe the time when Peter came out of prison. Maybe the time when the sun stood still. Maybe the time when the Red Sea parted, when the Lord intervened and answered prayer. We’re going to be talking about that this weekend and we’re looking at those moments to build our faith, to build our momentum and to believe that the Lord is with us and that He loves to hear our petitions. He loves to hear our praise. He loves to hear our prayers. So that’s it from me. Everything’s ramping up, groups are restarting, watch out for all the information and we will be blessed in 2023. Can I wish you all a very Happy New Year!
