Update from Pastor Jenny – November 11, 2022

More Info

Hey everyone, Pastor Jenny here.

I was thinking today about this song that I used to sing in Sunday School. It kind of went, “I want to be like a tree, planted in the river, rooted and grounded in love” and had like this polka feel to it. Really cool, actually kind of cheesy and annoying now, but the message in it was so profound.

And as I was reading in Ezekiel 47 today, I was reminded of that message where Ezekiel is having this vision of a river that begins as this little tiny trickle, and then as he walks along it, it grows and it goes deeper. It’s at his ankles and then his knees and then it becomes something that you have to swim through. It becomes something that you can’t just pass through, but it actually catches you up in it and carries you in its currents.

And as I was reading this, it struck me that this is such a beautiful image for the Spirit of God at work in us, forming us in the likeness of Jesus. And that is an image I want to send with you guys today, that God is at work in you and we just need to invite Him in to make us instruments of healing, of peace and of flourishing in our community, in the same way that that river is.

And I want to move on to some announcements now. We have a bunch of exciting things coming up. First of all, this Saturday is our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and entertainment night. You’re not going to want to miss it. There’s about 20 spots left for signing up, so you can do that online. Another couple of things.

We have our newcomer events happening November 22nd and 23rd, and this is for anyone who hasn’t been to a “Meet the South” team event yet. This is an opportunity for you if you’re new to South, to come and get to know us, have some casual conversation and some cookies. We’re going to do it at Pastor Glen and Sarah Madden’s house, so this is a great opportunity for you to step in a little deeper.

And I also want to put in a plug for Living Nativity. This is the time to get involved. Go online, you can sign up, and there’s just so many ways to be a part of blessing our community through this event. So make sure you check those things out and I hope to see you on Sunday.
