Last week the encouragement was to trust Jesus in the face of profound betrayal, even betrayal in the church. This week’s encouragement is similar: to recognize Jesus’ loving resolve and to trust Jesus in the face of our own confusing, terrifying circumstances. There was no more confusing period in the history of the world than when soldiers dared to threaten the life of the Son of God, the Word of life – the Creator. And yet, if even the arrest of Jesus was planned for ahead of time and brought salvation, we can face our circumstances with renewed hope and anticipation of how God will use these things for good. This is the Lord that we proclaim to a world that desperately needs refuge from terror.
