Seeds and Dirt

Key Passage: Mark 4:1-20
As we look at Jesus' parable of the farmer, we cannot help but notice two things about it. The first is that as followers of Jesus we are all bi-vocational people - being a student, a homemaker, a parent, a carpenter or an accountant is just one part of our bi-vocational calling. We have also been called by Jesus to be farmers; farmers do a wide variety of things, but one thing that most of them do is plant seeds. As farmers for Jesus, we have been called to plant seeds, wherever we are, about the good news of God's in-breaking Kingdom. Secondly, this parable is a challenge for us to examine our own heart. Jesus loves us more than we could ever imagine and, like a good cardiologist, He is concerned about the condition of our heart. He desires in us, a heart that is open to His word, responsive to it and producing fruit.
