Today we look at a remarkable story of God's provision and His power at work within a large community. The story is reflected in all four gospels, and its importance and significance must not be missed.
The disciples have been on a preaching tour themselves, the death of John the Baptist has been announced and the crowds keep coming to see Jesus.You can feel the emotion of all that is taking place in the chapter; exhausted disciples, fear of Herod's anger and then grief. These are credible reasons why they should not engage with the crowd who follow Jesus, but Jesus is deeply moved by them and wants to speak and teach. It is out of His love for the crowd that He continues to minister and work, it is out of concern that He not only meets their spiritual needs but demonstrates His ability to to take a little and turn it into much - all flowing out of a heart of love.
