A Psalm on Imagining God
Aug 16, 2009
I tried to imagine God.
First I tried to imagine a one dimensional line, stretching to infinity in each direction.
I couldn't quite do it.
I felt confused.
Next, I tried to imagine a two dimensional plane, stretching out to infinity in all directions for 360 degrees. This was even more difficult;
And I felt frustrated.
After this, I tried to imagine a three dimensional sphere, stretching out to infinity in an infinite number of directions.
I could not comprehend this.
I felt anxious.
Then I tried to imagine this unimaginable void being filled with an infinite number of planets, with galaxies and black holes and pulsars and wondrous heavenly bodies of all descriptions.
And I felt awestruck and insignificant.
Finally, I tried to envision a Being who could not only imagine all of these things, but who could see it all;
At the same time;
At the sub-atomic level;
And not only could He see it, He knew what it was going to next;
Because He designed it;
And created it;
Including me.
And I felt loved.
